CAC - Art with a Child

This month, I'm a guest author of "Try Day" Saturday at the CAC blog!

For my first official Try Day, I challenged everyone to spend some time hanging out and doing art (any kind... stories, painting, music, etc.) with a child or children.

Last night, while working with "my kids" (think 30-40 children in a very small room), we had an art contest. Not just any art contest though... the goal was to have the "craziest or funnest" picture. And WOW did we do some crazy ones! LOL

What did I learn from it?

Kids aren't afraid to be silly:

On the bottom of the first one it says: "Hillbilly Moment" hahaha That plus the teeth... I laughed so hard! The second one makes me laugh, because some were doing a Valentines theme... I take it someone doesn't like V-day much? LOL

It's okay to use bright colors!! (I have a nasty habit of being VERY afraid of color, and making everything so pastel that it's barely visable.)

And of course, the BEST art always involves things you love:

(Drawn by Anthony, who evidently loves to hunt?)

I drew one too, but evidently forgot to scan it... I'll probably post it later this week.

This is so fun Jana. I love doing art with kids. What I love is that the are never undecided. They know exactly what they want to do next. This inspires me!

What a great idea! I love to color with my kids. We make all sorts of silly pictures, and fun things. Sometimes we make squiggly lines, or flowers, or just doodle. My girls have lots of fun crayons, that have glitter in them and neon, and some that color brightly on construction paper. It's so much fun!

Nice work by the kids!
Maybe Anthony is into archery like my family is. We shoot a lot of 3-D targets with ours. Hubby and the boys hunt with theirs. Our boys started shooting at the ages of 5 and 4. They are now 16 and 13 and still shoot. We have a lot of fun shooting our bows.

THAT is how I draw - then I look at it and the 'inner critic' says 'so childish, not art' - that is what I battle.
however, after seeing this - I am going to draw and I am going to love my own art!
maybe we need an art gallery for us all!
thankyou for stopping by my blog - it is much appreciated and I am looking forward to our connection through blogs :)
