A Walk to Remember

Today, I walked to work.

Yeah, seriously!!! James's car is in need of repair, so since he works an hour's drive from home, and I work a half-hours WALK from home, I decided to let him take my car today, and walk if the weather was nice. The weather this morning was PERFECT! It rained all night, so everything was crisp and clean... it wasn't too hot or too cold on my walk... PERFECT.

So I set off on my walk, with my camera and a novel... Some fun things I saw on my walk:

3 squirrels
1 purple hyacinth
1 pink hyacinth
2 pink magnolia trees in bloom
1 mystery white blooming tree
1 Killer Corgi, who I will refer to as "Kujo the Cute"

As I went about my way, I was pondering on houses for sale... and had an ephiphany. I know how the government can solve the housing market problem!!!!

You know all the nice things that FDR had unemployed people do on the WPA to make this country better? Well, if the mortgage crisis continues, houses will be coming available at rapid rates... as more people sell or foreclose, and less people buy. Why couldn't the government start a program that buys houses in areas needing "urban renewal", and hire unemployed people to fix the houses, pick up the trash outside, plant flowers... and make those neighborhoods SO much better! They could train people for that instead of handing out welfare checks... the property values in those neighborthoods would increase... the mortgage crisis will eventually have to end, and the government can sell those houses back to ordinary citizens!

Yes, in the 30 minute walk to work, I single-handedly solved the mortgage crisis, welfare reform, unemployment, and urban renewal. Worship of me may begin at any time. :o)

We're not worthy of you Jana! Isn't it amazing what happens when you go for a walk? That's why I've been losing my mind, stuck inside and now I'm writing again and here you are ready to change the world. I think it's a fantastic idea and hope you share it with even more people. I love your list of discoveries too!

If only the solution were so simple. You have to assume people would actually rather get up off their butts and work than collect a check for doing nothing. While some would, todays generation of workers (some but not all) would complain about it being too hot, too hard, too something. Our grandpas generation knew the meaning of hard work and the importance of provision for your family, not accepting handouts. It is a great idea in theory. Maybe if we get someone decent in the Whitehouse and some people in congress who aren't afraid to do something like that, it could work. But with the current candidates, I'm thinking it ain't to likely.

Aren't I just a bit cynical? Love ya!

Jen, yep it was an awesome walk!

Suzie, it's getting cold here again... in fact I've heard rumors of snow being possible. Hopefully that's just because you're getting the warm weather this weekend instead?

Amy, if they don't work... they don't get a check of any kind. :) I'm cynical too... I would like to see major changes in the government, but I'm just not convinced that will happen.

I LOVE your idea!! That is so ingenious! It's a totally win-win situation, too, don't you find?

And I adore going for walks. If the weather wasn't so bad here, I'd walk more often! It is good for the planet and good for the soul. You really DO get to see interesting things when you walk instead of flying right past them in a car. Thank you for sharing your discoveries. :)
