Ingredient of the Week - Cabbage

When I married my hubby, he was not at ALL sure about cabbage. At least, he wasn't... until we tried a recipe for Unstuffed Cabbage given to us by Mimmsical Tammy! Now that he loves cabbage too, Saturday we decided to celebrate the start of spring by grilling a cabbage on the grill... always so yummy!!! How did we do it?

I took one head of cabbage, and cored it. BUT I didn't throw away the core... I cut the top of the cabbage-core off, so it made a little lid for my cabbage. Then, I took the "lid" off, and put 2 tbsps of margerine and some salt & pepper in the cabbage, as well as 4 strips of bacon. I put the "lid" back on, and sat it on the grill after the other food was done... cooked it until bored. (30 minutes maybe?) It was VERY yummy!

Here are some other recipes I found around the net that look yummy:
Summer Grilled Cabbage
Cabbage Roll Casserole
Cabbage Sausage Soup

So now I want to hear from YOU! How do you feel about cabbage? How do you cook it or include it in other foods! Share your recipes on your blog, and let me know here... I'll put a link on this post to your recipe! :)

yay! I'm glad you tried out a new yummy recipe from that cookbook! :) Unfortunately Mike will NOT eat cabbage! Bummer! I'll have to try this when he's travelling for business again! :)

My favorite cabbage recipe is my mom's krautburgers. The filling is the best part! (She made homemade bread, but you can use frozen dough to wrap them in) Just brown a pound of hamburger (onions if James will tolerate them!) and half a head of cabbage chopped fine. Cut the dough into small triangles and fill each one to make a pocket. Pinch closed and then bake according to the bread directions! Yum! Once done, pat a little butter, salt and pepper on top and it's a yummy meal!

To suit Mike I would use corn and green chilies instead of cabbage for the filling too.

I've been looking for a good coleslaw recipe but nothing has fit the bill yet. My husband hates the smell of cooking cabbage so much that he warned me he will walk out of the house and stay out until the smell is gone. He used to do this to his Mom all the time. Such a sensitive nose. Needless to say, I never cook cabbage which is a shame because it is soooo good for you! Enjoy it for me OK?

I do not care for sauerkraut, but I'm willing to try unpickled cabbage. That grilled recipe sounds delightful. BACON! I like red cabbage in salads. With BACON! lol

When it comes to cabbage all I can say is when you have irritable bowel syndrome you NEVER EVER eat cabbage. You don't want to know, trust me...
