That was the fortune I found when I opened up my fortune cookie after eating some SERIOUSLY yummy Chicken Chop Suey.
Yesterday was a day filled with mind battles left and right... I moped for the beginning part of the day, but between pondering this fortune and participating in Wishcasting with Jamie, I realized that my moping really was a choice. I was telling myself a lot of lies...
So after whining to poor Princess Jami, who patiently listened to me rant, I realized that things really weren't that bad! I AM strong enough to handle the drama in my life. I am NOT trapped by the messiness of my house... I can clean a little more than we mess up each day, and eventually my house will sparkle! (Especially since I plan to make Friday night - Saturday afternoon an official "Jana Day", where I boot everyone out of my house and don't answer phones... a very productive time.) I can even ask the Ohana members who come over to help me figure out how to keep the house clean as we make art.
I don't have to immediately make amazingly dramatic improvements in my art now that the Bazaar is over... I can keep experimenting, exploring, learning... I can take my art slowly, knowing that one day I will put my paintbrush into the paint, and get "In the Zone" and have a day of amazingly productive artwork! And if today isn't that day?? SO WHAT! I'll have fun learning new things as I experiment!
Like yesterday... I randomly learned how to draw her:

I'm not sure why she is so important, but this symbol just kept coming to me yesterday. This is her, drawn quickly on a post-it note here at work for your viewing pleasure.
OH! Before I forget, let me end this rather-random post with a very random question for you all... Brittany & I were discussing making a playlist on my computer of songs that inspire creativity, and I wondered what songs you all would suggest? We have some random ones... I want to download The Lady of Shallott again. (I *heart* that song!) But for today's question of the moment, let me ask you all:
What songs inspire your creativity?

When I'm in a darker mood, Kathleen Edwards really gets my writing going. When I'm in a lighter mood, Patty Griffin does it for me but she's still kind of sad. Her album "Living with Ghosts" changed my life. Dancing mood? The Moulin Rouge CD.
I'm Suzie BTW, Jamie and Shannon's sister. Nice to meet you, I will be back! You're a very interesting creative spirit. :)
Wow, great post Jana! I love that you took the fortune cookie to heart. YAY for being able to take control and plotting out time for yourself, I hope that goes really really well.
In terms of inpsiring music, I tend to like stuff that is a little heavier. Although I've not worked on that stuff for a while I did have one excercise in art school to paint to a song. I ended up working with Nick Cave's 'Red Right Hand'. Dark stuff, but it seemed to do the trick.
I listen to music that I used to hear when I was growing up in order to lift my spirits..just make me wanna dance and stuff....I like to gospel-praise music when I need to be centered...very few songs that have come out in recent years really inspires me...I think you need to find music that makes you feel good..music that makes you smile...that gets your toes tapping..and let that lead you!!!
great question!!!

Hi Jana,
Love your post, I think sometimes taking a day for yourself gets that creative energy going again. I posted today about this art museum tour blog that takes you on an artist date in your pj's in front of your computer. Also, Sonfic.com also has a widget that you put on your blog and you can do playlists as well. I like to play music to go with my mood every day, so it kind of matches the post. Sonific is very easy to use. Well, I hope you have a great day. Blessings, Karen (the pink box lady)
This may sound weird, but I don't like to listen to music if I'm going to be creative. It interrupts the process for me because I am very musical and ends up taking me a different direction and I can't focus. So I make sure things are quiet.
