Crafty Dilemna?

I found a really cool way to use up some lace that I have laying around (note - I despise lace.) at a blog here, and was all ready to give it a shot... when I realized that the pattern required felt. Now - the only thing I hate more than lace, is felt. My home contains no felt fabric, nor will it anytime soon. The lace is supposed to be hot glued to a small circle of felt, which is attached to a hairthing (in this case, it seems to be a bobby pin, but I will use small snap hair clips.)  I'm wondering... what else do you all think I could use?

(Good ideas might be rewarded with a lacy hairthing, if the design works out!)

LOL, I wonder what it is about this project that has caught you Jana, considering you despise the "ingredients" required, isn't it funny when that happens? If you use fabric glue, you won't have to use felt. You can just use any other thick fabric you might have. The thing about felt though is it doesn't fray. Hmmm....
