So this is why people don't get involved...

I made contact with Child Protective Services this morning...

For what little good it did. Since I don't know the family's name, or the exact address (apparently "the blue house without a number, with a big willow tree, across from _______ park" is not enough, despite the park only being one block wide and only like 5 houses by it.), and the child isn't playing in the street NOW, (that I know of), they can't even investigate it. I should have called the police at the time. (She was inside when I left... so what good would that have done?!)

So, for now, the 3 year old will continue to play in the street, unattended, while the child molester down the street waits and cars drive by her.

This was productive...

On my lunch break, I'll call another number I found, and hopefully get a person on the phone who actually cares.

Yeah, keep calling. You have concern for the child, and someone will eventually be able to help you. Would it be a bad idea to try to get the address of the house, so that CPS could do something? /sigh

I would totally go under cover with my cell and camera and just watch and wait. But that's the little spy in me wanting to catch the bad guys and help by being a tattle tale. You wonder why I didn't have friends growing up!

Jami, working on the addy... but how do you find it, when the house has no numbers and the street has no sign? *sigh*

Suzie, THAT IDEA FREAKIN ROCKS!!!!!!!! I could take Jakey and go to the park... chat with the girl... take some pics if she gets in the road...

Do you remember when this happened to me?

I called the police, not child services and they immediately came.

I found the baby running down the street, half naked in the winter time.

The mother, when she finally came home, was immediately arrested. Sadly, the charges were dropped because she pled guilty to some other charges.

Keep calling sweetie, don't give up. That baby needs help.

I would just call the police the next time you see the child in the road. Unfortunately, there are some way more serious matters that CPS has to deal with and it may not get looked into at all. But you can bet the police are gonna come now and while that mom may not go to jail you can BET the police will chew her a new one!
