OH.

Tonight I attempted my first call to Child Protective Services. Due to a wierd phone situation (James's cell is from a different county than we are in), I wasn't able to get the message through and will have to call from work tomorrow... but you know what got me? The woman who originally asked what was going on so she could send me to the right number listened to the story, gave me the number to call... and ended with three simple words that spoke volumes.

Thanks for caring.

Thanks for Caring is right.

I have been on both sides of that scenario - the person making the call of concern, and the social worker investigating the situation. People always seem so hesitant to call CPS and yes, if the concern is investigated it is difficult for the family (unfounded or substantiated). I always think though, that if someone was concerned about my child, I'd rather they call and I go through the hassle of an investigation, than that something goes unreported and the child is in danger. So yea, if it's a serious concern, pick up the phone.

CPS won't investigate it if it doesn't meet their criteria, and better safe than sorry, if you ask me.

Jana, girl...I am SO proud of you for doing this and caring. I would do exactly the same thing.

Good for you! Way to go Jana! So many people get caught in indifference, thinking that a phone call won't do anything. Well words change the world. I'm so glad you weren't afraid and did what you needed to do.
