Childhood Memories

Every time I get sick, I think of my childhood. Laying on the couch, watching TV... eating lots of jello...

And hating school.

I was ALWAYS sick as a child. My nose was CONSTANTLY running, and red, and irritated from the constant blowing. I always had a cough. (This all ended about the same time we moved out of my dad's house, which had a wood-burning stove!) I was already deeply self-conscious, so the trips up to the teacher's desk, in the FRONT of the room, to get kleenexs were a nightmare.... and then came the drama.

"Why are you blowing your nose so much?"
"Do you know how many kleenex you've used today?"
"Your pareents need to donate kleenex if you're going to keep blowing your nose this much."

And so on. And so forth. Evidently they thought I was just being wasteful? Well, no, I wasn't... I was so scared of the teachers saying something, that I learned to "recycle" kleenexes. I'd get a few in the morning, use them as many times as possible... some more later in the morning, same thing... then by afternnoon the early-morning kleenexes were dry, so I would open them back up... and use them again. Until they fell apart. And STILL I got in trouble for using too many kleenexs. Sometimes I even used the same kleenexes for multiple days. Do you KNOW how gross that was???!!

I think there is a special place in hell for teachers who make their students feel self-conscious for basic body needs.

(And no, there is not a point to this ranting. Except that teachers suck. And colds suck. And noses-rubbed-raw-from-kleenexs suck. And I want a nap.)

I haven't blogged for 3 days, or done AEM. I'm leaving for 2 days tomorrow so ad 2 to both those numbers. And it doesn't matter!
'Cause I'm ok. And, oh, by the way, so are you! WAAAAAAYYYYY OK. =] Except maybe for the cold, which I hope is over soon. Feel better - all the way around! Sending hugs

All I can say is thank goodness for Puffs Plus with lotion and those kinds of teachers are part of why I homeschool!

I hated school too, mostly because of bullying and psychological warfare. Standing out like that is so hard, kids love to torment anyone who stands out for any reason. I try not to think about childhood very much, it's too painful. I hope you're feeling better soon so you no longer have to walk down that particular memory lane Jana.

Interesting about the wood-burning stove causing all that...and the teachers didn't seem to bother to check out what might actually be causing all the nose-blowing. Poor itchy red sore nose!

Teachers like that make me sick....no one questioned their methods a few years ago...but now they cannot make a move without something happening...I think all the school systems need to revamped...they have such a psychological affect on kids that it should be as close to a peaceful and encouraging environment as possible.
HOPE YOU FEEL BETTER SOON!!!
