The waitress was looking a bit worse for the wear... running this way and that, handing out food, refilling drinks, passing out checks... and forgetting to take our order for quite some time. I had some knitting with me though, so we patiently chatted as I knit. She did take our order eventually, and lo and behold, our appetizers arrived pretty quickly... and EXTREMELY fresh. So hot they almost burnt me... *happy sigh* The food was devine, and we happily chomped away.
I'd noticed a pretty large bruise on the waitress's chin, and couldn't help wondering what the heck had happened. Finally, about the time she was bringing us our check, I got my courage up and asked about the bruise. Turns out that our lovely middle-aged waitress had been in a FIGHT! That cracked me up a little... James asked her why she'd done it, and she grinned and said "it seemed like a good idea at the time." hehe. I asked if she had won, and she said she hadn't. :( Poor waitress.
What really got me about the experience was how tired and drawn she had looked as she rushed around, doing her job... and how AMAZINGLY different her face was when I asked about her bruise. She smiled, and her eyes sparkled brightly... simply because I had asked her about HER.
I felt a lump in my throat... how amazing that a few words and being conscious that she was a fellow human being could make such a difference.
My question for you all today, is:
What puts a sparkle in YOUR eyes?

It only takes one kind word. Good for you! At least you all didn't get nasty with her for delay in placing your order, most people would have yelled at the poor thing.
What puts a sparkle in my eye? Hmm...My boys, when they tell me that they love me.

Moments of dance magic. They're difficult to describe. Like, learning a move and practicing, practicing, practicing when voila! All of a sudden, I don't have to think about it and it doesn't feel clunky, but airy. Floaty. Those are the moments I feel prettiest and sparkliest. :-)
I also feel sparkly after church, remembering God loves me.
Well, sparkly during church, too. Usually with the singing, the most. And I'm sparkly-eyed when Beloved is happy to see me,'cause I got home safely. Oh, and when I say something that helps someone. :-)
I have heard people say there is such a thing as "divine appointments", aka, times when God shows us what to say in the middle of the everyday that blesses someone. You may not know what taking the time to show some interest in her did to her and her day.
As far as a sparkle, nothing beats my little ones when they are laughing a deep belly laugh. Sometimes they do it when they are being tickled and sometimes they are just wrestling. It always makes me sparkle.
When my friends call me on the phone or send me a card. Or (hint, hint) when they drop by my blog and live a little note!
Well, that should have been leave and not live. Plus it think it now shows a link. Have patience with me-I just started using blogspot.
