Atomic Buffalo Turding 101

Well, last night I made my first batch of ABTs!!!! I thought some of you might be wondering what they are or how to make them, so here is a quick tutorial.

What you'll need:
Jalapeno peppers (I used abt 20)
Cream Cheese, softened (I used a package and a half)
Sausage (I used 1 pound)
Bacon (I used 2 packages)

Step 1:
Preheat oven to 325 degrees, and then PUT ON GLOVES!!!! Jalapenos will burn anything their juice touches, which includes your skin! (Trust me, I got some on my lips last night and lemme tell ya... that was some HOT lip balm! LOL)

Step 2:
Rinse the peppers, take off their little tops, and cut them in half lengthways. Take all of the seeds and innards out of them, and they will look like this:

Step 3: Fill the pepper halves with cream cheese. They will look like cute little canoes!

Step 4: Top each pepper half with some of the uncooked sausage, so that they look like this:

Step 5: Wrap bacon around each pepper, so that it looks like a little papoose: (I wrapped one full slice around the bigger peppers, and half of a slice for the little ones.)

Step 6: Put the pepper papooses side by side in a cake pan lined with foil. CAUTION: Do NOT put them in too close together (like i did in the pic... *sigh*), since the bacon & sausage grease need to have room to drain into the pan.

Step 7: Bake peppers for 30-40 minutes or until the bacon is done. Put peppers on a plate lined with paper towels to drain. Let them set about 10 minutes, (giving them time to drain and for the bacon to get crispy) and then serve your ATOMIC BUFFALO TURDS!

Wow! Those look very very good! I may have to try it one day, but as I am trying to lose weight, maybe next year?

Wow, I've never heard of or seen these (by any name). ;) Looks yummy...and frankly, Jeffrey would LOVE these. I'll bet I could convince HIM to make them. ;)

Leti, they DO have low-fat or fat-free cream cheese... turkey sausage and turkey bacon maybe? On second thought... that sounds gross. Maybe next year would be better *giggle*

Eliza, they are good. I was VERY surprised at how "not greasy" they were though... i mean, with all of that pork? But evidently since I filled the peppers with enough cream cheese so that they were just a little over the top edge of the peppers, the grease slid right off into the pan.

Marilyn, they are yummy (except for the 2nd one I got... the first one was pretty warm, the second one was PURE FIRE, and the third one wasn't hot at all. Very bizarre.) If Jeffrey likes the Superbowl, they're a great munchie! Or just a "fun food" to have on hand for parties.
