UPDATE: It looks like I over-reacted to the situation. Evidently I WILL still be doing the plumbing... it's a bit confusing, but that seems to be the gist of the situation. I think. Uncle Norman has just suggested different parts and such that we might need, evidently? (While also stating that HE wasn't going to put me down under the house. Which is fine... I can get there all by myself. I mean, the entire bathroom floor will be gone! I'm sure I can find somewhere to crawl under lol) I apologized to my hubby, and life is good...
And I get to do my plumbing, hehehehe!!!!
This is what I wrote before I calmed down, and although I did over-react to James, the anti-girl plumber I sensed in Uncle Norman is still there and I am still offended. However... my husband doesn't agree with him, and that's really all that matters to me:

Why is it that men assume a penis is required for any type of construction work? Does the penis lift the hammer? Do you use the penis to hold the pipe as you attach it? What the friggin heck?!!!!!!
*sigh* Yeah, I just realized that I have been excluded from all the work being done ON MY OWN HOUSE this weekend, because I lack the necessary penis for construction. *angry eye roll* I'm putting most of the blame on Uncle Norman, but James is on my crap list too. It's not right to expect me to sit around and knit a friggin sweater when I am perfectly capable of helping with the construction work. Cook them a little lunch cuz that's what women are for... *angry eye roll*
Unfortunately, this battle is pretty much too late to be fought... since Uncle Norman is volunteering to work (and James and I can neither one do it on our own or learn how to in the next 2 days) it would be very bad to spend my time spitting and swearing at him because he's being a chauvenist pig. I have already yelled at the hubby for putting me in this situation... there's really not much more I can do at this point. Which makes me even madder, may I just add?
It's not that I have a burning desire to work on plumbing, to get all nasty under the house and encounter all sorts of strange bugs and such... I mean, it would be one thing if the house construction was being planned and I had said "Oh, great, while you guys work I'll get this other room painted and so on and so forth..." but it's a WHOLE different thing when I'm deliberately excluded from the work, involuntarily, simply because of gender. When it's assumed that I am incapable of doing certain things, just because the typical role of a woman is to do something different.
The feeling of being powerless over my own home, the feeling of being deliberately excluded from an activity just because of my gender, and the assumption that my gender prevents me from accomplishing a task I am physically able to do... THESE are why I consider myself a feminist.

heh heh ... you go girl :)
though i have to say, i much prefer to let the men in life take care of the construction and the ick stuff but its my choice not theirs ... hugs!
I guess I am just "girly" because I am the type that would gladly let them do all of the work, and preparing lunch, nope not me, I would buy them lunch, why cook when you don't have to?
You go Girl!!!
Woman can do anything if they know how
On the weekend get stuck in and be a pain till they let you help

He he, this made me laugh. Let the guys win on this one, and why not? If Uncle Norman has the knowledge, and wants to help, he and James can do it and you are free to work on another project. You have to let the guys in your life feel like they have some power some of the time... plus it's ok to let the guys do that sort of construction type stuff. It's what they like to do even if they suck at it or it takes awhile for them to figure out. I'm glad you were able to calm down about the whole thing, but it sure made me laugh!!
Love ya!
I'm with you Jana, my hubby's a very *uber* skilled carpenter and doesn't WANT or LET me help with anything around the house and at first it didn't seem like he even considered my input either. My dad was a decent carpenter and basically rebuilt our house growing up. He just didn't make it his job. But while he was remodeling our house, we were all pitching in and learning the skills too....even so, my hubby doesn't want my help!
I agree with Amy, it makes them feel accomplished and like they are litterally providing the roof over our heads, but it still rots.
oooh that would peeve me off it I enjoyed plumbing, but if that's what you want to do then go for it, isn't it your house?
Amy
I am glad you worked things out. And I totally agree! Women don't need to be looked down upon like that. Ever!
