Connecting?

When I came back to blogging, I noticed what seems like a shift in the connections happening across the web.  Where before I had shared deep discussions with friends via blogs, I have noticed many people focusing instead on the much less personal Facebook or Twitter for their communications.

While I'm sitting here, on a loaner computer which does not have my precious feeds saved, I'm pondering what connecting means since Facebook and Twitter have conquered the web?  Can people still connect, sharing their hopes, fears, and dreams, on such impersonal sites?

What have your experiences been?

Jana, I have totally noticed the same thing. More people will comment on my via FB or Twitter than they will leave on the actual blog. It can be very frustrating and make you feel kind of lonely. Still, it is a way to express yourself to lurkers and I know there are many out there just listening, not writing. I find though that your FB world stays small though if you don't blog, you don't meet new people. Just my 2 cents!

I have also noticed this happening. I think it is important to stay connected with those we care about in whatever way we can. Yes, FB and Twitter are nice for that purpose, but there are other ways, too. I prefer face-to-face connecting. The other day, I was feeling sad because my older brother never writes to me. He doesn't do relay (phone) or Facebook. It would be nice if we could write letters. :/

Suzie and Dawn, It makes me feel better to know I'm not the only one noticing this.

Yes, I definately missed blogging. I hope I can keep faithfully updating my blog, now that I have my computer back from the shop... and go back to faithfully bloghopping, now that I have my FEEDS again!! LOL

Suzie, WOW I'm so surprised that people leave more comments on FB than on the blog. Wierd!!! That would make me sad. Thanks for the thought about the world staying small... I forgot taht's what i loved most about blogging!

Dawn, you're right, we do have to use whatever ways work to stay connected to people we love. I set up a new twitter account (no idea how to log onto my old one lol) for that purpose... not cuz I love twitter (I like it. Sorta.) but because people I love update their lives on Twitter, and I don't wanna miss an opportunity to connect.
